Want to solve the Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials? If you’re fretting about inventory space, you definitely haven’t solved enough Merlin Trials. These mini-challenges appear after you save Nora Treadwell in Lower Hogsfield from some nefarious Ashwinders who are giving her a hard time. After all, they are looking for you, so it only makes sense to help.
It turns out that Nora is a historian and archaeologist specialising in Merlin’s work. She was exploring the highlands to find what she calls ‘The Trials of Merlin’. They’re essentially Hogwarts Legacy puzzles designed to test what students have learned in class, giving more inventory space for completing these open-world game tasks. There are a whopping 95 Merlin Trials to find, so grab your Hogwarts Legacy map and crack on finding all of them.
Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials solutions
There are nine distinct Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials, here are the solutions you need for each puzzle:
Large Ball
Look around for a large stone ball nearby, then use Accio or Depulso to guide it toward a nearby stone bowl in the ground. It will usually be downhill from wherever the ball is, and you may have to burn away vines covering it with Incendio or Confringo.
Small Balls
Similarly to the large ball Merlin Trial, there’ll be piles of small balls nearby. Use Accio to bring them to platforms with indentations for the balls. If you’re struggling to find any remaining balls or destinations, cast Revelio to highlight their locations.
Cracked Stone
For cracked stones, you simply need to destroy them. Using your basic cast a few times should do the job, but you can also use Confringo if you want to do it a tad quicker.
Lumos Moth
Rather than the Hogwarts Legacy empty paintings with the big moths you need to guide back to their home, these are much smaller, glow-in-the-dark moths that you need to guide back to encased blue crystals with Lumos.
Sphere Smash
Much like the Cracked Stone Merlin Trials, you just need to destroy these spheres any way you like. We recommend blasting them away with your basic cast or Confringo.
Parkour
Climb on top of the nearest block, then jump between them – no spells necessary.
Statue Repair
Remember Reparo? Perhaps the least-used of the Hogwarts Legacy spells, you need it here to repair nearby statues that crumble as soon as you activate the Merlin Trial.
Symbols
Use Flipendo to rotate these stone cubes and ensure the symbol on the top matches the one on the pillar.
Lighting Torches
Much like the first Merlin trial, torches only require the use of either Confringo or Incendio to ignite. The twist is that you need to do it quickly because they begin to sink when you light them. If they submerge in water or the ground, the flames are extinguished, so we recommend Confringo over Incendio in 90% of cases.
These collectables only appear in the highlands, so you won’t need to wander Hogwarts’ halls or the town of Hogsmeade to locate them. Hold off on properly tackling each of the Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials until you learn all of the spells and, at the very least, have a broom.
They will appear on the map as you get close to them, including while riding on a broomstick. Once you activate them, the pillars nearby will activate and you will need to figure out which spell is best suited for the job. Some require just the use of your basic spell, while others require advanced magic you learn in lessons or missions. It’s better to have every spell in the game before tackling these so you can just breeze through everything Merlin has to offer. Once you solve a challenge, the leaf marker will disappear from the map.
Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials rewards
It’s important to note that your rewards for completing the Merlin Trials don’t automatically unlock. Instead, you need to go into the Hogwarts Legacy challenges tab and claim each reward individually. Each Merlin Trial milestone unlocks four additional gear storage spaces.

How to get Mallowsweet to activate Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials
You need to use a sprig of Mallowsweet leaves for each Hogwarts Legacy Merlin trial you encounter. Luckily, this is a relatively painless plant to get, provided you start growing it as soon as you can cultivate plants. You can grow Mallowsweet yourself, either after your first Herbology class or by creating a small potting plant in your Hogwarts Legacy Room of Requirement. You can buy the Mallowsweet seed from The Magic Neep location, and it’ll take ten minutes to grow five Mallowsweet leaves after you pot the plant.
And that’s everything you need to know about the Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials. If you still need an extra hand, you can always unlock some of the Hogwarts Legacy talents to improve your spell’s potency. It may just be enough to complete the more complex incantations to cast. There are plenty of other collectibles in the RPG game, from Daedalian keys to Demiguise statues, landing platforms to Infamous Foes, and much more. The creator of the Harry Potter series, JK Rowling, has made a number of transphobic remarks on social media in recent years. Warner Bros. has the licence to make games based on Harry Potter. While the details of that deal aren’t publicly known, and WB Games says “J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game”, it is likely that, as the creator and owner of the Harry Potter IP, she will earn royalties from its sales.
