Virtual fashion from House of Blueberry launches on The Sims 4

The creative community of The Sims 4 has been given another opportunity to shine as the game gets its very own CurseForge mods page. Fans and creators alike can now access the world of Sims 4 mods easier than ever before, with a dedicated space to share and download.

As a part of this exciting development, Overwolf has teamed up with digital fashion brand House of Blueberry to launch an exclusive Sims 4 collection available through the CurseForge platform. The virtual fashion house is set to release around 200 assets over several months, helping to encourage creators to contribute to the user-generated content marketplace.

Mishi McDuff, the founder of House of Blueberry, has been creating digital fashion for virtual worlds since 2012. 20 million items later, House of Blueberry has become one of the biggest fashion houses of its kind, with its latest project this collaboration with Overwolf and CurseForge. We spoke to McDuff to find out more about the collection and her love of modding and fashioning items for virtual spaces.

Founding a fashion house

McDuff may have founded one of the most iconic virtual fashion houses in the world, but a decade ago, she was merely solving a common problem. “I founded Blueberry in 2012 as a solo project on Second Life,” she explains, “It all started when I wanted to go to a virtual concert but couldn’t find anything cute for my avatar to wear. I ended up designing a polkadot dress for myself, and soon had tons of people asking to buy it off me! Since that day, Blueberry has grown into a bonafide fashion house, with over 20 million virtual items sold and almost half a million customers across multiple platforms.”

Millions of people inhabit these virtual worlds, from all walks of life and corners of the globe. It stands to reason that many of these people care deeply about their avatar, a digital representation either of themselves or their wildest dreams.

The Sims and self expression

Often, these avatars are fantastical versions of ourselves, living out a life of excitement, popularity, or contentment. An avatar with a default costume is just another player, but one that is tailored perfectly to your interests and desires is something we can emotionally connect to. The Sims, McDuff says, is no different. “Simmers love styling their Sims down to every little detail, from clothing and accessories to tattoos and freckles.”

“I’ve played The Sims on and off throughout the years, and I love the freedom and creativity of the game – especially with the beautiful graphics and detailed worlds of The Sims 4. It’s an iconic franchise, there’s nothing out there quite like it.”

“The Sims 4 is a shining example of a ‘sandbox game’, enabling an immense amount of creativity and self-expression. Particularly with the game being a single-player experience, it means that you have ultimate freedom and control over every aspect of your Sims and the worlds they inhabit.”

More choice through modding

For McDuff, The Sims 4 is a perfect extension to House of Blueberry’s work, a brand that always aims to bring a real-world focus on fashion to the metaverse. Each stage of the collection will feature different aesthetics and variations, shaped around the content that CurseForge users respond to. “House of Blueberry will be releasing 200 assets over the next several months, which will be seasonal in theme,” she explains, “Our upcoming drop, for instance, is a cute holiday collection. We utilise data insights and community feedback to guide our release strategy in real time.”

“Our main goal with the launch of Blueberry on The Sims is to enhance user expression in a new metaverse environment. House of Blueberry is unrivalled when it comes to meeting our customers’ needs for both fashion and community, and we’re so excited to bring our brand to an iconic franchise like The Sims,” she continues.

“This is just the beginning of what we hope will be a long and active partnership between Blueberry, Overwolf, and The Sims. Our design team has an incredible breadth of experience and capabilities, and we have already demonstrated a readiness for partnerships through our collaborations with brands like Jonathan Simkhai and Natori.”
