The days are getting shorter, the nights colder, and there’s a distant sound of jingling mixing together with the endless screams of the undead just outside of town. That can mean only one thing – the Winter Convergence is returning to New World, bringing another season of festive fun (and fighting) back to the world of Aeternum.
From December 6 to January 10, 2023, New World will once again find itself covered in snow and full of cheer, as the Winter Wanderer returns to set up his Winter Villages and help spread joy and merriment to all the residents of Aeternum. But not everything is as cheery outside of the safety of these settlements. A vengeful creature known as the Winter Warrior will stop at nothing to spread Forever Winter across the island of Aeternum
There’s a lot to see and do during the Winter Convergence Festival in New World, with new quests to take part in, a new world boss to defeat, festive loot to collect, and plenty of merriment to go around. Here’s what you can expect from the event – and how you can prevent the Winter Warrior from messing it all up.
The Winter Wanderer
For the uninitiated, the Winter Wanderer is an enormous yeti who only comes to Aeternum during the Winter Convergence. The Winter Wanderer spreads the joy of the holiday, and will be your main quest giver for the Winter Convergence.
Taking quests from the Winter Wanderer will raise your reputation with him, giving you access to even more of the seasonal items available from the Holiday Huts that have appeared alongside him. And there’s plenty to do to help prevent the arrival of the Forever Winter…
The Winter Warrior
Outside of the safety of the Winter Villages lies the Winter Warrior, who has returned to Aeternum with his Frigid Folk to wreak havoc around the world. His ultimate goal is to bring about the Forever Winter, which is as bad as it sounds – if you want to prevent everyone on Aeternum from freezing to death, you’ll need to take care of this problem, and fast.
The Winter Warrior and his Frigid Folk can be found across Great Cleave, Brightwood, Edengrove, Ebonscale Reach, and Brimstone Sands. You’ll need to gather a big party – at least 20 players, maybe more – to take down this new world boss and end his campaign of ice and destruction.
Winter Villages & Tokens
It’s not all doom and gloom. Dotted around Aeternum you’ll find four Winter Villages in Everfall, Monarch’s Bluffs, Weaver’s Fen, and Brightwood, which are the main hubs for the Winter Convergence Festival. Find these and the Winter Wanderer within, and you can start making the most of the festive period with seasonally appropriate gifts for yourself, like new Weapon and Apparel Skins, Emotes, Housing Items, and more.
You can earn Winter Tokens by completing quests for the Winter Wanderer, gathering Gleamite that falls from the sky at night, and turning in lost presents that you’ll find on your travels. There’s also an enormous Tree of Light at the centre of each Winter Village – visit this each day for some gifts to help you get into the festive spirit. You can even earn more daily gifts by upgrading the tree through Town Projects, so long as you’ve got room in your stocking for all of them.
All of these activities will also boost your reputation with the Winter Wanderer, which will unlock new items to buy in his store. If you want the best festive gear and loot, you’re going to need to really get into the spirit of the season.
With so much to do during the Winter Convergence Festival, you’ll be feeling the holiday cheer well into next year with the new quests, and new seasonal rewards. And don’t forget that you get to hang out with a giant, friendly yeti who only gets bigger as you spread more joy. What more could you possibly ask for?
